For us here at the Child Psychology Institute, we are passionate about getting children outdoors, bringing families together, increasing communication and connection, and raising awareness around child development. Globally, we are currently experiencing the highest rates of childhood mental health issues in history, including anxiety, depression and self-harm and this includes children as young as 5. The Child Psychology Institute was launched in 2021 as a direct response to the growing need for parents and those working with children to become educated and empowered with effective strategies that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our children…and therefore future generations. This is why we’re launching the amazing #100happydays4kids campaign!
But hey, although the problem itself is heavy, the solutions are actually simple. They already are the small moments in each and every day. They are concepts like messy play, free play, risky play, fantasy play, cooking together, talking together, reading together, creating together, being together. It’s all about bringing things back to basics. There are no age limitations on play so please loosen those responsibility ties…set a timer if you really struggle being childlike and get on the floor, get messy, get silly and have fun!
As a parent, teacher or anyone else who works with children, please know the activities outlined in these days might seem simple but there is a small section on each page describing the psychological rationale behind their effectiveness. On September 23rd 2021, we are starting our #100happydays4kids movement together and make the most of the last 100 days of 2021. When the evenings get shorter, we often struggle to figure out how to engage children. Our advice: turn off all technology, including your own, and get stuck into any of these 100 activities! You will enjoy it as much as the smallies.
